I forgot the getting-up portion of my day today.

What a luxury it is to have nowhere to be and nothing to do.

A blessing and a curse, no doubt.

Some days I struggle to find a purpose at all, though I guess I tell jokes at night and people sometimes laugh. Maybe it’s a purpose, not sure yet.

Today I could have slept all day, but around 2pm my ex called.

I shouldn’t really call him an ex anymore, as we dated when we were practically kids, many moons ago, but I call him my ex with fondness for what we had and respect for what we grew into.

Now he is my friend — a steadfast and real one. Sometimes we go months without speaking, but time isn’t something we notice.

He was 23 and I was 18 when we first met while ushering at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA, my first job before starting Boston University as a cello major. He was attending Berklee College of Music as a guitarist, singer, composer.

I liked him right away, with his curly, blonde hair, big blue eyes, and bad boy confidence. Later, I found out he wasn’t that at all. He was sensitive, kind, and loyal, but did a good job…
